Find Comfort and Safety Within Yourself

Explore Healing and Connection Together

How Psychotherapy Can Help

The people I work with often identify feeling like they are disconnected or absent in their lives.   Sometimes it might feel like they have no grounding or roots, and are being tossed around by the changing winds.  They might feel lost or disconnected, and want to be more in tune with themselves, their needs, and a sense of authenticity.

Psychotherapy can provide a sense of connection and grounding, where we work together to build tools and resources to help you find more stable footing, and to guide us to the parts of yourself that may have needed to be shut away and protected for a long time.  Together we can work towards healing, where you are able to connect to a sense of safety and security that allows all parts of you to step into the light.

About Me

I am a social worker and psychotherapist that has been supporting people to heal from experiences of trauma and addiction for over 15 years.

My approach to psychotherapy is rooted in feminist and anti-oppressive social work practice that recognises that many individual problems are deeply connected to social contexts.  In practice I use a mix of psychodynamic approaches, cognitive behavioural, strengths-based, and emotion-focused approaches, as well as somatic processing, depending on the needs of my client.  I support folks to make connections between current struggles and past experiences to help clients better understand themselves, and to feel like their past is more behind them rather than something they are living in the present.  I explore client identified problems with curiosity and compassion to support clients to gather the information they need to live more genuine and empowered lives.  By bringing unconscious patterns and survival strategies into consciousness, clients identify that they are empowered to learn new ways to cope and engage with their lives.

I am located in Ottawa, Ontario, and work with people 18 and older.  I specialise in the areas of developmental trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, gender-based violence, family of origin issues, anxiety, depression, addiction, and loss.

What to Expect

In our initial appointment we will discuss what brought you to book an appointment, and what goals you have for therapy. I will ask questions to help me understand the context in which the issues you identify exist. It is important for me to get to know you, your background, and your environment in order to best support you.

I believe that you are the expert of your own experience and will listen to you, and help support you to build or rebuild the lines of communication within yourself so that you have the grounding you need to make informed decisions for your life. I often support people to learn or connect to new coping strategies, and to better understand the impacts of trauma. I hold a strong belief that healing, growth, and reconnecting with yourself and others is possible, and will support you to both discover the mechanisms for healing within yourself, and provide gentle direction and structure.

I am so grateful to be a trusted person in so many people’s lives and will walk with you to explore difficult experiences with compassion and curiosity.
